Ben Kavanagh’s timely play about gay conversion therapy gets a new revival at Above The Stag, directed by Gene David Kirk.
Running from 8 June to 3 July 2022, the play stars Nick Mower as Alix, Sam Goodchild as Marcus, and playwright Ben Kavanagh as Arbiter.
In the play, Alix and Marcus have been brought to The Facility to be “corrected” of their deviant sexuality. If their condition is cured they may leave and return to the society. But if they fail, they will be sent to the Other Place, away from their friends and family forever. Failure is not an option, but in this confounding institution, where they only have each other, the greatest threat to their success is their own love.
Kavanagh researched real conversion techniques for the play, techniques that are currently being used against LGBTQ+ people in the real world.
