Theatrical wunderkind JJ Green brings his new musical A-Typical Rainbow to the Turbine Theatre this summer.
This is the world premiere of JJ’s debut play, and the autistic writer also stars in the show, which is based on real events from the perspective of the writer and the autistic community.
The show stars JJ Green in the lead as Boy, alongside Caroline Deverill (Mother), James Westphal (Father/Doctor), Conor Joseph (Jake/Daniel), Joy Tan (Abby/Thomas/Lara) and Maya Manuel (Emily/Mrs Whiteman/Rachel).
In the play, Boy has always seen the world differently to most people. Where they see monochrome, he sees the world in vivid and brilliant technicolour. As Boy grows up, he faces increasing pressure to conform to the black and white logic of the ‘real’ world, a way of thinking that doesn’t make sense, and forces him to suppress his unique and beautiful view of life.
Directed by Bronagh Lagan, the show has sound design by Max Alexander-Taylor and associate sound design by Chris Czornyj, choreography by William Spencer, set and costume design by Frankie Gerrard, video design by Matt Powell, casting by Jane Deitch, production management by Jack Boisseux, deputy stage management by Ryan Webster.
A-Typical Rainbow runs at the Turbine Theatre from 30 June to 7 August 2022.
