Queercirlce - The Queens Jubilee

The Queens’ Jubilee at Queercricle

The Queens’ Jubilee
Thursday 9 June 2022 to Thursday 8 September 2022
Venue: Queercircle
This event has now closed

Newly opened Queercircle is hosting its first archive exhibition this June – called The Queens’ Jubilee.

The exhibition celebrates the radical drag queens of the Gay Liberation Front, who marched through central London in 1972 for the first ever Pride in the UK.

The radical queens involved in the movement defied gender norms and utilised street theatre to tackle inequalities. Fifty years later, Queercircle has collaborated with key Gay Liberation Front figures, led by Stuart Feather, to explore gender, drag, social action and LGBTQ+ politics.

On display will be documentary photography, diary entries and news cuttings, demonstrating the evolution of drag from performative social action to being a way of life.

The exhibition takes place in Queercircle’s reading room, which serves as an additional exhibition space and hosts archive displays from artists or members of the LGBTQ+ community.
