The swirling, romantic, cowboy themed gay classic Brokeback Mountain is coming to the West End stage in a World Premiere production.
Annie Proulx’s cult novel got the Ang Lee film treatment starring Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal; and is now coming to the London stage courtesy of a new adaptation by Ashley Robinson.
An exciting cast features two hotshot men of the moment: Tony and BAFTA Award nominated Mike Faist as Jack- who wowed everyone in Steven Spielberg’s movie version of West Side Story; and Academy Award nominated Lucas Hedges (Manchester By The Sea, Boy Erased) as Ennis.
If that wasn’t enough, then throw in The Feeling’s Dan Gillespie Sells, who has written a series of specially commissioned country and western songs for the show, which will be sung by none other thanFairground Attraction’s Eddi Reader, playing The Balladeer.
Eddi Reader will be joined on stage by her Country and Western band: Sean Green (piano/MD), Meelie Traill (upright bass), Julian Jackson (chromatic harmonica), BJ Cole (pedal steel guitar).
The play will be directed by Jonathan Butterell, who reunites with Gillespie Sells following their smash hit production of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.
Promising to be heartbreakingly intense, this tale of an irresistible and hidden love that spans twenty years, and that ultimately has tragic consequences, is going to be the hot ticket of the summer.
Brokeback Mountain is running at @sohoplace theatre in London from 10 May to 12 August 2023.
