A major photography exhibition at the Royal Academy highlights the work of actor Dennis Hopper.
There’s no question that the name Dennis Hopper immediately evokes Hollywood royalty, the star of acclaimed movies such as Easy Rider, Apocalypse Now, Blue Velvet and True Romance and Easy Rider.
But Dennis Hopper was also a hugely respected photographer, and some of this work can now be seen in London at a powerful new retrospective of at the Royal Academy of Arts (until 19 October 2014).
Pulling together over 400 original vintage prints of his images taken during the 1960’s, the photographs cover a fascinating period of social and political change in America, from Hell’s Angels and Harlem street life to Sixties hippies, Martin Luther King and the Civil Rights movement and urban life in New York and LA.
The show also features many of the most famous faces from the world of film, fashion, art and music, including Andy Warhol and Paul Newman and provides a fascinating glimpse into the life of Hopper the actor, and his America.
