Classic musical Damn Yankees is given a sexy spin at London’s Landor Theatre.
The Landor Theatre – the small fringe venue in South London that’s big on musicals – is primed to score a hit this season with a revival of classic Broadway musical Damn Yankees.
And they have gone all out to secure the gay vote with a cast of hotties and some smoking marketing publicity that has GOT US INTERESTED!
Written by the talented team of Richard Adler and Jerry Ross, who also penned musical classic and recent West End hit The Pajama Game, Damn Yankees won eight (read it – EIGHT) Tony Awards when it premiered on Broadway.
In the show, a devilish dealmaker offers Joe Boyd the chance to help his beloved Washington Senators baseball team win the Pennant race against those “Damn Yankees”. But when Joe makes his pact with the devil and the Senators’ luck changes dramatically, he realises that he is fast losing his wife and his looks in the bargain. And when hot temptress Lola comes on the scene, things go from bad to worse.
The plot may be straight but the men are… well, the men are also straight but hell, they are ALSO HOT! A talented cast includes Jonathan D Ellis (Les Misérables) as Applegate – played by Jerry Lewis in the Broadway and West End revival in the 90’s, sexy Poppy Tierney (The Witches of Eastwick) as Lola, Alex Lodge (Saturday Night Fever) as Joe Hardy, Tony Stansfield as Van Buren, alongside Nova Skipp, Gary Bland, Douglas Fanning, Barnaby Hughes, Joel Burman, Sam Stone, Kiel Payton, Ben Sell, Sam Lathwood, Emily Wigley, Kayleigh Thadani, Christopher Tendai, Elizabeth Futter, Sophie May Whitfield, Samson Ajewole and Leah Pinney.
Damn Yankees is directed by Robert McWhir and is at the Landor Theatre until 8 November 2014.
