A new play explores the gay man behind the world’s most successful pop group.

Legendary music manager Brian Epstein had an extraordinary career, becoming a household name by managing the Beatles and becoming one of the world’s most powerful music entrepreneurs.

But his private life was as fascinating as his public persona, a brilliant but troubled man who lived life hidden in the cloest and tragically died in 1967, at only 32 years old, from an accidental overdose.

Epstein: The Man Who Made The Beatles is a new play that takes a look at this untold story, delving into the private world of the man who seemed to have it all – wealth, looks and ability – but who was troubled, insecure and dependent on drink and drugs. The play follows Epstein through his drug-fuelled final days and looks back on his meteoric career from drama school to managing the world’s biggest pop group.

Originally commissioned as part of Liverpool’s Homotopia gay festival, the play proved a smash hit in 2012 in Liverpool, the home town of the Beatles, and is transferring to London for a limited six-week season at the Leicester Square Theatre from 30 July to 6 September 2014.

The original, talented cast returns for this London transfer, with Andrew Lancel playing Brian Epstein and Will Finlason playing ‘This Boy. Epstein is written by Andrew Sherlock and directed by Jen Heyes.
