The most famous gay artist in the world, David Hockney, gets the full English of an exhibition at Tate Britain.

Almost certainly the most popular and the most influential British artist of the twentieth century, and still shaking it up in the twenty-first century, is David Hockney.

He is also, arguably, the most famous and successful gay artist in the world.

In the year that Britain celebrates (okay, marks) 50 years since the decriminalisation of male homosexuality, Tate Britain returns to Hockney to pull together this exhaustive and utterly impressive collection of his work. (Tate Briatin is also staging a Queer British Art exhibition at the same time).

The exhibition lays out a selection of David Hockney’s most famous works Рacross all of his art forms, from painting and drawing, to print, photography and video Рspanning six very productive decades, a lot of which has been spent in sun-drenched California.

Turning 80 on 9 July this year, Hockney’s body of work includes his portraits and images of LA swimming pools, through to his drawings and photography, Yorkshire landscapes and most recent paintings, plus his embrace of new technology.

Not to be missed.
