The word “exraordinary” is used a lot in theatre marketing, but Come From Away at the Phoenix Theatre feels like it really does earn the accolade.
And clearly a lot of people agree, given its multiple award wins in New York and London – including four Olivier Awards, and the audiences who have flocked to this show, often for multiple visits.
This joyful and utterly life-affirming musical recounts the incredible true story of 7,000 stranded passengers who were redirected to a small Canadian town on September 11, 2001, after the attacks on America.
Cultures clashed, and nerves ran high, but as uneasiness turned into trust, and something extraordinary grew out of that terrible situation, including a series of enduring friendships.
Written by Tony® nominees Irene Sankoff and David Hein, and helmed by Tony-winning Best Director Christopher Ashley, Come from Away is about as life-affirming a smash-hit musical as you could hope to get.
